In a Senate meeting held at Veer Kunwar Singh University (VKSU) in Bihar's Bhojpur district, Governor cum Chancellor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar expressed discontent with the state education department, holding them responsible for hindrances in the development of higher education.
The Governor, citing Supreme Court instructions, emphasized that the responsibility for higher education lies with the Governor, and despite the court's directives, the Education Department continues to impede progress.
Governor Arlekar highlighted concerns about the government's reluctance to allocate sufficient funds for higher education, stressing that the responsibility of nurturing this sector should not be considered a favor to students.
He pointed out instances where the Education Department overstepped its authority, including the selection of agencies for housekeeping services, a decision reserved for the Syndicate and the Senate. The Governor urged collaboration to strengthen higher education and discussed the approval of a budget of Rs 647 crore 57 lakh for the financial year 2024-25 in the meeting.
